Whilst browsing on Sky News – Technology, I came across an interesting article which caught my eye. In my opinion this article portrays the bullying that occurs between big businesses and
smaller companies. Shenzhen Proview Technology is a smaller based company of
LCD screen which has its headquarters in Hong Kong. Proview registered the iPad
trademark in China in 2001. Following this, Apple bought the rights to the name
from a Taiwanese associate. However matters became complicated when the mainland
company says it still owns the name in China. A Chinese court disallowed Apple's claim to the name in China last year, but Apple has appealed. Apple, meanwhile, insists it owns the iPad name and has accused Proview of failing to stick to their agreement. The Shenzhen Proview Technology claims to own the iPad name whilst a court ruled in its favour last year. This week the Chinese company said it would ask custom officials to stop imports and exports of iPads, which are made in China. The matter has become very serious now that the Proview Technology Company has also asked controllers in more than 40 cities to inspect possible trademark violations. The company is supposedly deeply in debt.
